A process for producing gateau pieces, using baked, rectangular and flat cases, in which crèmes, jams, fruit jellies or other masses suitable for gateaux are spread on the cases, the cases are placed one above the other and decorated, whereupon the top, before or after decorating, is marked in accordance with the size of the gateau pieces to be cut off or into which it is to be cut and the gateau is sliced into individual gateau pieces.
