In an agitator for liquid manure stored in a tank, which comprises an agitator shaft which dips into the liquid manure, is driven via a drive unit and has stirring implements, the agitator shaft and the associated drive unit are arranged on a supporting head. The supporting head can be displaced along a guiding element which spans the rim of the tank opening at least in part and which can be moved relatively to the tank in a plane which is parallel to the surface of the liquid manure in the tank. The guiding element is designed as a gantry for the supporting head and is braced by at least one end at the rim of the tank opening; in the case of a round tank, one end of the guiding element is mounted so as to be pivotable about a perpendicular axis on a supporting mast in the centre of the tank.
