PURPOSE:To make it possible to measure the jitter of a laser pulse train, which is repeated at a high speed, by adjusting the light path difference in first and second light path systems for correlation, and comparing the waveforms of autocorrelation and the correlation of the pulse, which is 1-2 or more pulses later. CONSTITUTION:Light from a laser pulse train source S to be measured is split by a half mirror 1. One beam is totally reflected by a total reflection mirror 2 and returned. When the total reflection mirror is located at a position P0, the first light path system is formed. When the mirror 2 is located at a position P1, the second light path system is formed. The light, which is transmitted through the half mirror 1, is reflected by a total reflecting mirror 10 and also reflected by the half mirror 1. The total reflecting mirror 10 also serves the role of adjusting the first and second light path systems. The mirror 10 can be moved up and down within a specified range by an adjusting-means driving device 8. The information of the moving position is inputted to an output recorder 9. The recorder 9 records the photoelectric conversion outputs corresponding to the positions. The laser pulse train is measured by the first light path system and the second light path system. The waveforms are compared with each other, and the degree of the jitter can be determined.
