Polyester yarn which is loop-forming, specifically by infabric shrinking, is spun at a selected speed, pref. in the range 3300 - 5000 m/min, to provide non-round filaments (20) of average shrinking difference below 5%, but which vary periodically in shrinkage along their lengths. Elongation of the filaments is between 50% and 130% and their deniers less than 4.5. In their nonround cross-section, the major axis(22) to minor axis(24) ratio is at least 1.2. Pref. yarn shrinkage is less than 25% for polyethylene terephthalate filaments. |
