PURPOSE:To record the error information by providing a means to detect a state where the using area and another area of an external memory are released with overlap on each other, storing the state information on these areas to the external memory when said release state is detected and delivering the detection of the release state to an output device. CONSTITUTION:An external memory controller 20 receives an instruction from user and performs the memory checking process. a bit map copy controller 15 receives a command and stores it in a memory bit map area 21 to copy it to a bit map storing area 22. A directory bit map production controller 17 receives a command stores the using condition of the capacity of an external memory 1 in the area 21 from the contents of a directory which performs regis tration and control of a file given from the memory 1. The data on both areas 21 and 22 are compared with each other, and an error deciding part 25 delivers the information on decision to the controller 20.
