In order to simplify the connection of the gear shift lever bearing to the body it is proposed to connect the damping bellows to the tunnel plating by way of a sleeve composed of foamed material, the damping bellows being directly connected by its outer edge to the sleeve and the sleeve being held by the edge of the cutout in the tunnel plating. In this arrangement the damping bellows is connected to the guide piece forming the gear shift lever bearing, whilst the sleeve is provided between the arm carrying the bearing and the tunnel plating.
