In an adjustment device for adjusting the angle of inclination of the backrest of a motor vehicle seat, two joint components are mounted on an eccentric bolt bearing a hand wheel and are constructed as a swash-plate gear with toothed areas which engage one in the other. The adjustment device has a blocking device which has a locking element which is arranged axially displaceably and non-rotatably on the eccentric bolt and, in a first position, engages in a positively locking fashion with the adjacent joint component and fixes the latter non-rotatably on the eccentric bolt. In a second, axially displaced position, the blocking element is disengaged and releases the adjacent joint component for pivoting.
