PURPOSE:To make easy the discrimination of a color deviation even if a color difference is slight by determining the segment parallel with a hue line and saturation line past the point of an objective color, displaying a lightness difference and comparing and displaying the relation between the two colors by a hue difference, saturation difference and lightness difference. CONSTITUTION:An L*a*b* value is determined from tristimulus values XYZ values of the color of a reference sample, then a Munsell conversion is executed in order to determine the hue of the reference sample. The grade of the hue line NH is determined from b*/a* and the hue line NH is drawn at the origin O, then the saturation line YR.PR intersecting orthogonally with the line NH is drawn. The sample is measured and an L*a*b* value is determined from the tristimulus values XYZ. The difference DELTAL*DELTAa*DELTAb* value of the reference sample is calculated and the value of DELTAa*DELTAb* is taken from the original O and the point (1) is displayed. The DELTAL* value is taken on the lightness difference axis DELTAL* and the point (2) is displayed. The easy and exact discrimination of the relation in the color between the reference sample an the sample for each component of the hue, saturation and lightness is thus made possible.
