The invention relates to a device for expanding a tube (1) with the aid of subatmospheric pressure in a single processing step. The device consists of a hollow cylinder (12) in which, in a starting stage, a sealed piston (8) is introduced. After the tube (1) to be expanded has entered, the necessary subatmospheric pressure is built up in the remaining expansion chamber with the sealed piston (8) retracted. After expansion of the tube (1) the sealed piston (8) is extended, the tube (1), now expanded, sliding along the inner wall of the hollow cylinder (12). Only a small subatmospheric pressure is thereby required. <IMAGE>
