PURPOSE:To eliminate leak current by installing a distributing pipe for electrolyte supply and a collecting pipe for electrolyte discharge in the upper part of an electrochamber of fuel cell and removing electrolyte from each pipe with electrolyte left in the electrolyte chamber while the fuel cell stops operation. CONSTITUTION:A distributing pipe 3 for electrolyte supply and a collecting pipe 7 for electrolyte discharge are installed in the upper part of an electrolyte chamber 5 of fuel cell block 8. They are connected to a supply pipe 14 and a discharge pipe 15 respectively. Their opposite sides are connected to an electrolyte exhaust pipe 16 through exhaust valves 17. The cell block is installed so that distributing pipe 3 and the discharge pipe 7 slant by theta to the lower side of the connecting part of the exhaust pipe 16. During operation, electrolyte is supplied from the distributing pipe 3 to each unit cell and circulated through the collecting pipe 7. While the cell stops operation, the exhaust valves 17 are opened and electrolyte within pipes 3 and 7 is removed. Therefore, electrolyte path between each unit cell is cut off to eliminate leak current and decrease loss. |
