PURPOSE:To provide a water stopping agent which is strong and resistant to straining, has durability even under an alkaline condition and forms water impermeable gel, prepared by copolymerizing polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate with an appropriate amount of an electrolytic vinyl monomer. CONSTITUTION:The water stopping agent is prepared by copolymerizing 98-80 pts.wt. polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate (A) of the formula (where n is 18-40) with 2-20pts.wt. electrolytic vinyl monomer (B) (e.g. sodium 2-acrylamido-2- methylpropanesulfonate). (A) makes it possible to produce a gel which is strong, resistant to straining and durable even under an alkaline condition and (B) prevents syneresis of the gel. The water stopping agent does not swell in water and is impermeable and strong. Both components have low toxicity, high polymerizability and water solubility. |
