PURPOSE:To simply and optimumly carry out the change and adjust of wheel distance between the right and left wheels of a traveling vehicle body, by detecting the extending position of an extending and retracting device for extending and retracting the wheel distance to compare the thus detected value with a reference value to operate the extending and retracting device so that the extension of the wheel distance is controlled. CONSTITUTION:Front wheels are steered by means of a steering wheel 12 to change the running direction of a traveling vehicle body 1, and are associated with rear wheels 8 through a prime mover 6 and a transmission box 7 so that the traveling vehicle body 1 is advanced. In this arrangement, when, for example, the wheel distance between the front wheels 2 is changed to be adjusted to its optimum value in accordance with various conditions, a set value of a desired wheel distance is inputted by means of a variable resistor and an adjusting knob 11 on a meter panel section 10. Then, a wheel distance control device 5 computes such that this set resistance value is compared with a resistance value detected by a variable resistor 29 in an extension sensor 4 for a wheel distance extending and retracting device 3. Further, the extending and retracting device 3 is operated until both value become equal with each other to change and adjust the wheel distance.
