The plastic, e.g. (extruded) PVC, trough (1) for growing rooted plant cuttings using a nutrient soln. comprises a bottom (2), side walls (3,4) and end walls and is provided with at least one inlet and an outlet for the solution and channels (10a,c, 12a; 10b,d, 12) or the like to receive (insert) plant retaining means, e.g. a strip with openings. The trough is provided with means to ensure availability of a film of nutrient soln. of adequate thickness on the trough bottom, which pref. consist of a lowered central bottom portion (2a) extending over the full length of the trough. The bottom may be wholly or partly double-walled (2,13) and the intermediate space may contain heating tubes (19).
