<p>An agitator mill having a cylindrical, fixed mill container (3) has a milling space (9) filled partially with auxiliary milling bodies (44), in which milling space a rotationally driveable agitator mechanism (7) is concentrically arranged, from which agitator rods (29) protrude radially. In addition, corresponding rods (31', 31'') can be attached to the container wall (10). In order to improve the wear of the milling space wall (10) and possibly the wear of an agitator shaft whilst at the same time improving the heat transfer to the milling space wall and possibly the agitator shaft, the distance (a) of the agitator rods (29) from the milling space wall (10) is smaller than half the diameter of the smallest inserted auxiliary milling body (44).
