Apparatus for the continuous coating of a web (4) travelling over a roller (5), in which a rolling doctor blade (1) bears under pre-tension against the web supported on the roller. The coating material is supplied under gravity to the contact point between the doctor blade and the web by overflow from container (8) and inclined plate (15). The container is pivoted at (12) to enable the supply to be interrupted.
