PURPOSE:To reduce the height of a machine, to prevent the machine from vibration and sound, and to save the necessary power by attaching a cartridge of an ultrafilter membrane to the inside of a covered housing connecting an upper conducting pipe and lower conducting pipe fitted radially to the top and bottom ends of a casing of a submergible axial-flow pump installed with a motor. CONSTITUTION:Feed water introduced into a casing 20 of a vertical pump from a feed water introducing pipe 34 is flowed upwards by driving an impeller 30 with a motor 32. The water is dispersed radially by a funnel-shaped expanding part 24 and a dispersing cone 26 for the feed water and filtered by suction when the water passes through a curved upper conducting pipe 36 flowing downwards through a cartridge 50 of an ultrafiltration membrane in the housing 40. The water is then circulated through the lower conducting pipe 37. the permeated water having permeated the ultrafiltration membrane is taken out of a water sucking fitting 52 and a water collecting pipe 53 as treated water. When the filtration membrane is clogged, the filtration operation is interrupted, and the motor 32 is driven in the reverse direction to flow a large amt. of feed water through the cartridge 50 for washing the filtration membrane.
