PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of sludge treatment and to improve the dehydrating property of the treated sludge by using a substance produced by fermenting sludge generated from the biological treatment of org. waste water and culturing the microbes as the flocculant for treating org. waste water. CONSTITUTION:A part or the whole of sludge generated from biological treatment of org. waste water is fermented in an acidic medium under anaerobic conditions and a flocculating active substance is produced at the outside of a microbe body by using the fermentation liq. and culturing the microbe. The flocculating active substance is separated or separated and concd. and the substance is used as the flocculant. Since the sludge generated in biological treatment of org. waste water as waste is utilized as a flocculant without using a high molecular flocculant which has been heretofore added to sludge, the cost of sludge treatment is remarkably reduced. Consequently, the amt. of generated sludge is reduced, since the treating sludge is reutilized. Besides, the water content of the sludge can be reduced to the same water content as the dehydrated cake obtained by using a high molecular flocculant and dehydrating by a centrifugal separator.
