PURPOSE:To determine quantitatively an amino acid in a sample with high sensitivity by comparing the reference emission intensity when a reference catalyst soln. contg. Cu ion, etc. to a reaction system which emits chemically light when oxidized, and the emission intensity when a reference catalyst soln. incorporated therein with an amino acid-contg. sample is supplied. CONSTITUTION:An oxidative agent soln. B such as aq. H2O2 soln., reference catalyst soln. C contg. metallic ion such as Cu ion to act as a catalyst for oxidation and a soln. A of a material such as luminol which emits light when oxidized are mixed and are brought into reaction with each other. The emission intensity thereof is measured by a measuring means S in a flow cell F. A sample soln. D is then added to the soln. C and the mixture is mixed with the solns. A, B. The emission intensity thereof is measured. The means S consists of a photosensor 1, an amplifier 2 and a recorder for memorizing the respective measured values, etc. The quantative determination of the amino acid with good linearity over a wide concn. range is made possible with high sensitivity of about 20pmol from the difference between the reference emission intensity and the emission intensity decreasing according to the content of the amino acid when the sample liquid is mixed with the soln.
