PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent protein model compound in high yield in an extremely short time, by carrying out the polycondensation of the ammonium malate, maleate or fumarate, etc., under the radiation of microwave. CONSTITUTION:A malic acid and/or maleic acid and/or fumaric acid monoammonium, diammonium, monoamide, diamide or monoamidoammonium salt or their mixture is subjected to the polycondensation under irradiation of microwave (optionally after the addition of one or more kinds of amino acids). If necessary, the obtained polycondensation product is hydrolyzed. A protein model compound (biopolymer) useful as a polymer for the immobilization of enzyme can be produced by this process with simple procedure without using hazardous chemicals.
