PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin suitable for cationic electrodeposition, having low-temperature setting properties, by adding a primary monoamine to an aminimide group-containing ethylenic unsaturated compound, and a primary monoamine to the addition product. CONSTITUTION:(B) A primary amine (e.g., ethylamine, etc.) is added to (A) an aminimide group-containing ethylenic unsaturated compound (e.g., 1,1,1- trimethylaminacrylimide, etc.) in the presence of an organic solvent preferably at 70-120 deg.C so that 0.05-1mol component B is added to 1mol component A, to give Michael type addition product shown by the formula (R1 is 2-30C alkyl, etc.; R2 is H, phenyl, etc.; R3, R4, and R5 are 1-8C alkyl, etc.). Then, this product is reacted with (C) a polyepoxide (e.g., polyglycidyl ether or polyphenol, etc.) in an organic solvent in an inert gas flow while stirring, to give the aimed resin.
