PURPOSE:To stop knocking, when it is generated in an engine, by controlling an opening and closing valve to be opened when the engine is in low speed operation while closed when the engine is in high speed operation, in the case of the engine equipped with intake passages for use in high and low speed operation and the opening and closing valve which opens the intake passage, for use in high speed operation, when the engine is in high speed operation. CONSTITUTION:An engine, providing in every cylinder low speed use intake passages 12a-d communicating with the first volume chamber 13 and a high speed use intake passage 17 communicating with the second volume chamber 14 and branching from the low speed use intake passages 12a-d, provides in a branch part of the intake passage 17 an opening and closing valve 19 opened when the engine is in high speed operation. A control unit 37, opening an actuator 20 when the engine is in high speed operation, obtains the intake passage corresponding to an intake inertia effect in high speed operation. While if a knocking sensor 39 detects knocking generated in the engine when it is in high speed operation, the control unit, closing the opening and closing valve 19, reduces the intake inertia effect, and the engine, decreasing its charging efficiency, stops the knocking. While if knocking is detected in the engine when it is in low speed operation, the engine, similarly decreasing the charging efficiency by opening the opening and closing valve 19, stops the knocking. |
