PURPOSE:To transport a card without mechanical stress to the card by detecting the existence/absence of a card by a sensor, and adsorbing the card by a vacuum adsorption nozzle from one direction to be moved, so that the card is transported to a designated position. CONSTITUTION:When IC card 6 is inserted in an insertion port, photo sensors 7, 8 detect entering of the leading end of the card, and a valve 13 of a vacuum device 22 is opened to suck air from a nozzle 14. Subsequently, when sucked air is out, a motor is rotated, so that the card adsorbed to the nozzle is supported by guide roller 16, 17, and transported to a designated position. Hereupon, when photo sensors 11, 12 detect the leading end of the card, and the photo sensors 7, 8 detect the trailing end of the card, the card is stopped at a designated position. After that, the card is still adsorbed, and required data is read or written from or to a memory of the card through a receptacle portion 4 of the card. Accordingly, as the external force is not transmitted to IC built-in the card, the durability of a card and reliability of IC can be improved.
