A dry material sorting device for selectively sorting mixtures of granular material comprising component materials such as sand and gold having different specific gravities. In a first embodiment, a prescreening device (120) is used to segregate particles into separate batches based on particle size. Each batch is then fed to a horizontal wind tunnel (12) whereby the heavier particles drop out of the air stream nearer the feed point than the lighter particles, thus effecting separation based on specific gravities. In an alternate mode, the screening takes place using a dynamic screen (90) having variable aperture sizes, after the particles have been separated by specific gravities in the wind tunnel (12). |
