PURPOSE:To improve sufficiently the durability of the titled medium by forming a coated film consisting of a fatty acid on a magnetic layer, further coating a liq. lubricant thereon or infiltrating the lubricant into the layer. CONSTITUTION:10-22C saturated fatty acid and unsaturated fatty acid are usually used as the fatty acid to be coated on a magnetic layer 2. Such fatty acids have an excellent lubricating function and excellent affinity for the magnetic layer 2 and are firmly attached to the surface of the magnetic layer 2 to form a coated film 3. Consequently, the friction coefficient of the magnetic layer 2 is reduced and the abrasion resistance of the magnetic layer 2 is improved. When the coated film 3 is further coated or impregnated with a liq. lubricant, the fatty acid does not emerge on the surface, the liq. lubricant freely moves on the coated film consisting of the fatty acid and hence the fatty acid does not accumulate even when a magnetic head is repeatedly traveled on the surface of the magnetic disk. Moreover, the excellent lubricating function of both disk and medium are fully exhibited and the abrasion resistance is further improved. The thickness of the coated film 4 consisting of such a fatty acid is preferably regulated to <=200Angstrom and to a value larger than the thickness of the monomolecular layer of the fatty acid. |
