The invention relates to a load brake, usable in particular for lifting gear, with an input shaft on which an input member, preferably a wheel or a crank, is mounted in freely rotatable fashion and can be coupled by a driver in one direction of rotation to a driving disc arranged in a rotationally fixed manner on the input shaft and in the other direction of rotation to a braking nut which can be adjusted axially by means of a thread and pressed against a brake lining. In order to design a load brake of this kind as a constructional unit which can be mounted on any input shaft, the braking nut is arranged by means of its internal thread on a braking hub which is mounted in a rotationally fixed manner on the input shaft and is provided with a braking flange which can be pressed via a brake lining against one side of a non-rotatably-held brake disc, against the other side of which, via another brake lining, the braking nut is pressed.
