PURPOSE:To ensure a method capable of high speed recording and reproducing its record by patternwise irradiating light to cause reversible change of a recording medium and to record information or to erase it, and irradiating another light different in the wavelength region to reproduce the records without destructing them. CONSTITUTION:Some kind of photochromic material, such as an azobenzene deriv., changes from double layer gel, through single layer gel, to sol when it is raised from low temp. to high temp., and since the transition temps. of a cis-type and a trans-type are different, at some temps., single layer gel in the cis-type, and double layer gel in the trans-type occur, and it is possible to detect the difference between them without destructing them, and to discriminate these types from each other. The necessary part of the material is converted, for example, into the cis-type, and irradiated with a prescribed pattern of light in a prescribed wavelength to convert the exposed parts into the trans-type, and the temp. is lowered to convert one into the double layer gel, and the other into the single layer gel, thus permitting their difference to be detected without destruction. |
