PURPOSE:The titled glass having high resistance to thermal shock, having P2O5- SiO2-Al2O3-R2O(R is Li, Na, or K)-Nd2O3 as a base composition, adding further oxide of La, Y, B, Mg, Nb or Ce, and specifying the composition. CONSTITUTION:Silicophosphate laser glass having a composition of 45-70mol% P2O5, 5-20mol% SiO2, 60-95mol% P2O5+SiO2+Al2O3, 10mol%<Al2O3<=20mol %, 20mol%<Al2O3+SiO2<=30mol, 4-30mol% R2O, 0.01-12mol% Nd2O3, 0-5mol% La2O3+Y2O3+B2O3, 0-10mol% R'O (R' is Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn, or Pb), and 0-1mol% Nb2O3+CeO2 having high resistance to thermal shock, dura bility, a low quenching concentration of fluorescence, and a cross-section of stimulated emission with such an accurate value not to cause parasitic oscilla tion. The glass is obtained by blending glass raw materials in order to give the composition, melting the raw materials, dehydrating sufficiently them by bubbling with a drying gas, etc., and molding the melt into a desired shape.
