The invention relates to a method and a device for process control of welding processes, in the case of which method the welding process is controlled by monitoring the process-specific welding parameters from arcs which react to disturbance variables, by means of test equipment, and coupling to the welding burner of the welding process. The welding process is intended to be protected against undesirable extinguishing of the arc and against undesirable reignition as a result of a short-circuit link. As the solution, it is proposed that the control of a current source be tested continuously in order to determine whether processes are taking place outside the bandwidth of reference variables, to be precise especially for the basic voltage, pulse voltage, basic current, pulse current, duration of the pulse-current phase and/or the basic-current phase. If at least one of the reference variables is exceeded in either direction, the welding process is influenced, especially by switching off the control system of the current source. <IMAGE>
