The subject-matter of the invention is a device for closing the inner space 10 of a side spill plate 1 which accommodates the shearer cable 7 and/or the water hose 8 of a winning machine 6 used in underground mining. Supports 11, which define the inner space 10 of the spill plate 1 on one side and are arranged at a distance from one another, each have an arm 17 which overlaps and closes off the top side of the inner space 10. The arm 17 is pivotably mounted against spring force about the longitudinal axis of the support and is displaceably mounted in the longitudinal direction of the support and is also locked against pivoting movements in one of the two end positions of its displacement path. According to the invention, the arm 17 is to be released only in the lowest position of its displacement path for a pivoting movement about the longitudinal axis of the support, which pivoting movement leads it out of its blocking position. <IMAGE>
