The invention relates to a composite block (1) for covering or cladding surfaces. Said block has lateral oblique surfaces (3, 4) which, when laid in a composite manner, bear on corresponding oblique surfaces of neighbouring blocks and mutually support one another. In order to achieve simple production and to permit transportation which is not in danger of damaging the edges, the composite block (1) is in the shape of a half-die (cube) which is a result of a planar oblique cut through a die, to be precise a planar oblique cut through the centres of three pairs of die edges which are diagonally opposite one another. <IMAGE>
