PURPOSE:To provide a compact bearing with a thin attachment by providing a load adding device bearing against the other end of a movable pivot of a bearing housing for supporting pivotably a pad to give a space between the pivot and said device when a rotary spindle is stationary. CONSTITUTION:A pad 2 provided on the outer peripheral portion of a rotary shaft 1 is supported by a movable pivot 3 which is freely movable axially. The pivot 3 is in a bearing housing 4 and has the one end contacting a leaf spring 5 fixed to the housing 4. A fixed seat 4a provided close to the pivot 3 integrally with the housing 4 is elevated from the end face of the pivot 3 by a value delta corresponding to the thickness of gas film formed between the shaft 1 and pad 2 by the rotation of the rotary shaft 1. Thus, when the shaft 1 stops, the leaf spring 5 contacts the fixed seat 4a and when the shaft 1 rotates, the gas film is formed between the shaft 1 and the pad 2 to contact the spring 5 so that preload is applied to the pad 2 and thus the spring 5 can be thinned. |
