PURPOSE:To reduce the worsening of driving power of an engine, by spreading a released region of a lockup characteristic or holding it in a released condition in an automatic transmission when an air conditioning unit is operated. CONSTITUTION:When an air conditioning unit is placed in an operative condition, a controller, correcting a lockup characteristic of a lockup control means 94 by an output signal of an air conditioner operation detecting means 93 detecting said operative condition, actuates a lockup clutch 6 to be controlled on the basis of the second lockup characteristic. This second lockup characteristic is set to a characteristic spreading an inoperative region of the lockup clutch 6 or completely holding it in an inoperative condition as compared with the first lockup characteristic. Consequently, the controller can reduce the worsening of driving power of an engine generated in the operative condition of the air conditioner. |
