PURPOSE:To aim at eliminating the necessity to blend a gelling agent into agents for negative electrode or to arrange absorbers of electrolyte into cells, by using, as an agent for negative electrodes, amalgamated zinc which gets many fine irregularities on surfaces of particles due to desposition of silver on surfaces of zinc particles or amalgamated zinc ones. CONSTITUTION:Since amalgamated zinc for use as an agent for negative electrodes gets many fine irregularities formed on surface of their particles due to deposition of silver on to surfaces, it has larger surface area than other usual ones, and can hold electrolyte by capilarity in recesses of particle surfaces, as is different from other usual ones. As amalgamated zinc itself can hold electrolyte, as started above, it becomes unnecessary to blend a gelling agent into agents for negative electrodes or to arrange absorbers of electrolyte, as done in conventional methods, thus enabling to eliminate not only problems such as reduction of weighing properties due to gelling agents but also dispersion in filling quantities of active materials, while at the same time, the elimination of necessity of electrolyte absorbers makes it possible to attain higher capacity of a cell and improve its storage characteristics. |
