The round-shank pick has a seat part (12) which is brazed in a recess (13) of the pick shank (10). The seat part (12) is defined at the front end by the annular shoulder (14). The working part (19) projects forwards from the annular shoulder (14). The pick shank (10) is extended to the front by an annular collar (18). The front end edge (20) of the collar (18) is pressed laterally against the working part (19) of the cutting insert (11) and brazed there. The working part can be of longer design due to the support at the brazed joint (21) so that the pick can be used longer. During use, the collar (18) is abraded until the working part (19) has become so short that it no longer requires any support by the collar (18). <IMAGE>
