A sealing arrangement for a flap valve, stoplog, sluice gate or the like comprising a strip of resilient material having an elongate web (20) attached to a fixed member (14), an upstanding portion (21) and a deformable leaf (22) superimposed over a part of the web (20). A movable member (17) partially deforms leaf (22) to form a seal therewith, the leaf (22) being otherwise inclined away from said web (20). An undercut groove at the junction of the upstanding portion (21) and the leaf (22) facilitates deformation of the latter. A rigid strip (26) prevents excessive deformation and compression of the resilient material. Water pressure acting between web (20) and leaf (22) enhances sealing effect. <IMAGE> |
