PURPOSE:To execute an image input operation having multifunctions by forming a transparent plate, a sensor unit which has been constituted as one body, of a photoelectric converting element train, a light source and an optical system, and a position input means which can see through and can indicate and input an optional position on an original surface, which are all made thin. CONSTITUTION:When a read start signal is received, a sensor unit 19 moves in the direction A, and light from a light source 21 illuminates an original surface in the shape of band by a condenser lens 27. The reflected light from the irradiated original surface forms an image on a photoelectric converting element train 20 for covering the original width through a (one-toone) optical system 22, and an output corresonding to variable density of an original. On the other hand, a position detecting means 23 has a thin wire electrode 31 which has been provided in the shape of lattice, and as for a position indicating means 24, a detecting coil 32 is provided on a position of B. Therefore, a position of the detecting coil 32 on the position detecting means 23 can be recognized by applying successively a voltage to the lattice-shaped thin wire electrode 31, and detecting a current generated in the detecting coil by an electromagnetic induction action. In this way, a designation and an input of a position on the original surface, which are indispensable to processing of various image data can be executed on the original surface.
