A temperature measuring device comprises a source (1) of a reference signal whose frequency is substantially independent of temperature, a source (4) of a temperature dependent signal; and a counter (5) for counting pulses of the temperature dependent signal occurring in a predetermined period derived from the reference signal. Latch (7), decoder (8), driver circuit (9) and display (10) receive the output of the counter to provide an indication of temperature. The counter has fewer stages than the number of stages required to count all the pulses corresponding to expected clinical temperatures occurring in the predetermined period. A further counter (6) counts the MSB's: in dependence on this an indication of out-of-range temperature may be displayed. <IMAGE> |
