A method of obtaining 2-alkyl- or 2.2-dialkyl-1.3-propanediols with the total number of carbon atoms not less than six consists in the reduction of alkyl- or dialkylmalonic ether by boron hydride of sodium in the presence of a metal halide in the medium of water-soluble ethers, at the boiling temperature of the reaction mix with the subsequent extraction of the desired product. |
