The invention provides a secondary high temperature electrochemical power storage cell (10) which has a molten sodium anode (20) in contact with a beta- alumina cell separator (14). The sodium anode has magnesium dissolved therein to form a saturated solution for gettering impurities in the sodium. The invention also extends to an anode sub-assembly for such cell which comprises said sodium and said separator, the sodium comprising said magnesium getter dissolved therein to form a saturated solution; and the invention further provides a method of combatting progressive internal resistance rise in said call by dissolving magnesium in the sodium to form a saturated solution. <IMAGE> |
