PURPOSE:To improve the durability and corrosion resistance of the titled medium by fluorinating the surface of a ferromagnetic metallic thin film layer on a substrate and further providing a fluorine lubricant layer. CONSTITUTION:After a ferromagnetic metallic thin film layer 12 is formed on a substrate 1, the surface of the ferromagnetic metallic thin film layer 12 is fluorinated to form a ferromagnetic metallic thin film layer 13 whose surface layer consists of fluoride of the ferromagnetic metal and further a fluorine lubricant layer 14 is formed. Consequently, the corrosion resistance is sufficiently improved due to hydrophobicity shown by the fluorine atoms, the fluorine lubricant layer 14 is tightly adhered and coated on the ferromagnetic metallic thin film layer 13 whose surface layer consists of the fluoride of the ferromagnetic metal, the friction coefficient is continuously and fully reduced and the durability and corrosion resistance are sufficiently improved.
