A centrifugal washing apparatus of the type in which a collection of raw material is introduced into a vessel 40, which rotates about a vertical axis within an area 51, which is radially defined by a screen 52, provided with coarse concentrate on its inside surface, water in the collection area 54 outside the screen being repeatedly pulsed in order to expand the coarse concentrate, in which pulsing of the washing water is achieved at a boundary surface such as a membrane or an air/water boundary surface, which essentially lies right outside the projected free surface of the raw material.
