PURPOSE:To obtain a redox compd. which can release a photographically useful reagent without depending on the kind of a developer by using the redox compd. which is oxidized and receives the nucleophilic attack of a nucleophilic agent to the carbonyl group and releases the photographically useful reagent by the cleavage of the bond in succession thereto. CONSTITUTION:The redox compd. is preferably expressed by the general formula (I). ED in the formula (I) denotes the redox base nucleus complying with Kendll-Pelz rule (hereundeer expressued as 'K-P rule'), PUG denotes the photographically useful group, L denotes a bivalent combination group, Time denotes a timing group and m and n denote respectively 0 or 1. The redox group complying with the K-P rule is preferably exemplified by hydroquinone, etc. and the photographically useful group expressed by PUG is exemplified by a development restrianer, etc. The combination group expressed by L is exemplified preferably by alkylene, etc. Time is exemplified preferably by the group, etc. which release PUG by forming formalin or the deriv.
