PURPOSE:To measure accurately and quickly the pH of an aq. soln. by providing a high-polymer film contg. a hydrogen ion carrier on a conductive base body having an oxidation-reduction function. CONSTITUTION:An oxidation-reduction film 12 is provided on the conductive supporting substrate 11. The film 12 performs an amine-quinoid type or quinone- hydroquinone type oxidation-reduction reaction. The film 12 is coated with a hydrogen ion carrier film 14. The carrier film 14 is used by incorporating a hydrogen ion carrier material (amine, etc.) and electrolytic salt (LiBF4, etc.) into a vinyl chloride. A sensor 10 constituted in the above-mentioned manner is immersed into an aq. sample soln. The hydrogen ions in the soln. are then transported to the film 12, by which the oxidation-reduction reaction is induced and the electromotive force corresponding to the hydrogen ion concn. is generated. The pH is detected from the electromotive force. Since the hydrogen ion carrier film is provided to the sensor, the continuous measurement of the pH with high accuracy without receiving the influence of the dissolved gas is made possible. |
