METHOD FOR COMBINED OF GELS HAVING DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES

Sepn. performance of a column packed with a contaminated gel for liq. chromatography is improved by removing a length of 5-60% of the total packed length of the column and packing the resulting void with fresh gel of the same type of activity but of higher activity than the contaminated gel remaining in the column. Pref. the inner dia. of the column exceeds 10 cm and its length exceeds 20 cm. The method is simple and enables the life of a column to be extended by supplementing only a small amt. of high activity gel.
