PURPOSE:To obtain a compact and highly operable picture processing system by using single connection means including a switch means which can switch picture data between the transmission and reception directions to secure the mutual connection between a picture input/output device and a picture processor. CONSTITUTION:A picture input/output device 100 containing a picture reader 14 and a picture recorder 15 is connected to a picture processor 200 via interfaces 12 and 21. The transceivers 12A and 12B provided to both interfaces 12 and 21 switch the flowing direction of the picture data signal DATA in response to switch signals DIR1 and DIR2. The connector parts 12B and 21B connect both interfaces 12 and 21 to each other via a connection line F. For instance, both CPU 20 and 10 work in response to a transmission/reception direction switch command of the signal DATA given from an operator through a keyboard 24. Thus the transmission and reception directions are switched by the signals DIR1 and DIR2. Thus it is possible to form a compact and highly operable picture processing system.
