PURPOSE:To enable the detection of inclination in any two-dimentional direction, by checking the movement of a viscous fluid corresponding to the inclination as changes in the electrostatic capacitance to detect the angle of inclination continuously. CONSTITUTION:A sensor body 4 is provided with a single common electrode 6, detection electrodes 7a-7d, a magnetic fluid 8 and an insulation member 9. The electrodes 7a-7d being spherical are the same in the shape and the size and so arranged that electrostatic capacitances obtained respectively between the electrodes 7a-7d and the electrode 6 though the member 9 and a spherical space 10 will be equal. As the body 4 tilts with the inclination of a case 1, the fluid 8 moves in the direction of inclination subjected to the action of gravity and the proportion of the fluid 8 covering the electrodes 7a-7d changes. As a result, respective electrostatic capacitance of the electrodes 7a-7d with respect to the electrode 6 changes to vary voltage signals Va-Vd given through an electrostatic capacitance detecting circuit 5. Thus, continuous detection of the direction and angle of inclination can be done by arithmetic processing of the voltage signals Va-Vd.
