摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent a back fire, by releasing an intake valve side after an exhaust valve side of the valve lockers for inoperative cylinders is released, when operation of a cylinder quantity controlled engine is switched from the partial cylinder operation to the all cylinder operation. CONSTITUTION:A control device, providing in intake and exhaust valves 4, 6 of inoperative cylinders B, C a cylinder quantity controlled engine valve lockers 12a-12d for holding the valve in a closed condition, controls each locker 12a-12d by solenoides 22a-22d driven by a signal from a control unit 36. When operation of the engine is transferred from its partial cylinder operation to all cylinder operation, the control device, first releasing the valve lockers 12b, 12d of the exhaust valve 6 of the inoperative cylinder to place the valve in a condition it can be opened, thereafter releases the lockers 12a, 12c of the intake valve 4. In this way, generation of a back fire can be prevented even if a response delay is caused in the valve locker when the operation is transferred.
