PURPOSE:To improve the graininess, sharpness and color reproducibility while maintaining the high sensitivity by forming a silver halide emulsion layer contg. a specified amount of silver iodide and by incorporating a fogging agent or development accelerator releasing compound as well as a development retarder releasing compound. CONSTITUTION:At least one silver halide (AgX) emulsion layer having >=7 mol% average silver iodide content is formed, and a development retarder releasing compound which releases a diffusible development retarder or a precursor thereof by a coupling reaction and a compound which releases a fogging agent, a precursor thereof, a development accelerator or a precursor thereof are combinedly incorporated. When the compounds having the conflicting effects are combinedly used, the effects do not compensate each other but intensify each other. The sensitivity of the resulting AgX photographic sensitive material is increased, the color reproducibility, graininess and sharpness are improved, and gradient suitable for a color negative film and favorable developed color density can be obtd. |
