The tubular burner (6) has sets of gas jet apertures (10) along its top, and gaps between the sets. It has a strip (5) bent into a U-shape above each gap. The arms of each U-shaped strip project downwards each side of the tube, and are secured by screws each side. Each strip has slots across it, parallel to the axis of the tube. Alternatively, the strips are of different shape, and supported alternatively by a framework. It may also have longitudinal bars or strips parallel to the tube, supported by a bridqinq member each end.
