PRODUCTION OF COLOR LIQUID CRYSTAL

PURPOSE:To provide a process for producing a color liquid crystal, by efficiently dissolving a powdered coloring matter in a liquid crystal in a short time by mixing a liquid crystal with a powdered coloring matter and exposing the mixture to an ultrasonic wave. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. liquid crystal such as a nematic liquid crystal or a smectic liquid crystal is mixed with 0.5-15pts.wt. coloring matter having a water content of 100ppm or less of the formulae I-III. The mixture is exposed to an ultrasonic wave of 5-100kHz from an ultrasonic generator for 5-60min to dissolve the coloring matter in the liquid crystal. The present process enables even a coloring matter having poor solubility characteristics to be dissolved in a liquid crystal in a short time and a high-concentration solution to be obtained.
